Nine new commodities added to boost the digital agri-trade platform

The Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India, has expanded the National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) by adding nine new commodities, raising the total tradable items to 247. This move responds to demands from farmers and traders for broader market access and deeper integration. The Directorate of Marketing and Inspection (DMI) developed tradable parameters for these commodities after consultations with stakeholders and approval from Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. These standards ensure farmers receive fair prices based on quality, reducing middlemen’s influence. The new commodities include Green Tea, Mustard Oil, Virgin Olive Oil, and Broken Rice. NIFTEM-K celebrates its 6th convocation and 13th foundation day

FSSAI Sets Up Panel to Revamp Organic Food Rules

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has launched a major review of organic food regulations, forming an expert panel to modernize certification, improve traceability, and enhance consumer trust. The initiative aims to align India’s standards with global benchmarks, address misleading claims, and ensure transparency across the supply chain. This follows APEDA’s revamp of its organic certification programme to support farmers and boost exports. Namkeen products means savoury, salty, and spicy traditional Indian snack foods that are usually made from ingredients like gram flour (besan), lentils, rice, corn, potatoes and spices. They are a broad category of ready-to-eat snacks that are crunchy, flavoured, and consumed with tea/coffee, as a side dish, or even as a stand-alone snack. Namkeen – Indian savoury snack foods, as opposed to sweets (mithai).
