Sri Lanka: Cabinet Grants Approval for Private Sector to Import Rice

The government has decided to grant permission for the private sector to import rice. Cabinet spokesman, Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayathissa said that this matter was discussed at yesterday’s Cabinet meeting. During the meeting, all Cabinet ministers had agreed to allow the private sector to import rice. Accordingly, the private sector will take steps to import the necessary stock of rice to the country promptly. Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayathissa also mentioned that any type of rice can be imported.

Carlsberg Denmark prepares its first beer with regeneratively grown raw materials

Carlsberg Denmark has entered into an agreement with DLG and Viking Malt to purchase Danish malt barley grown according to regenerative principles. The malt barley will be used for a specially brewed Carlsberg, which will be available in 2025 and be Carlsberg’s first beer in Denmark with regenerative raw materials. Read More

Financial Assistance to Micro Food Processing Enterprises

Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) is implementing a Centrally Sponsored- “Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme” for providing financial, technical and business support for upgradation of micro food processing enterprises in the country. The scheme is operational for a period of five years from 2020-21 to 2025-26 with an outlay of Rs. 10,000 Crore.  The scheme aims to enhance the competitiveness of existing individual micro-enterprises in the unorganized segment of the food processing industry and promote formalization of the sector.  Read More
