NIFTEM-K celebrates its 6th convocation and 13th foundation day

The National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management, Kundli (NIFTEM-K), celebrated its 6th convocation and 13th foundation day with key dignitaries including Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood and Dr. V.K. Paul. A total of 262 students received degrees, with seven earning gold medals. Speakers emphasized NIFTEM-K’s pivotal role in driving innovation, research, and entrepreneurship in India’s food processing sector. The institute showcased achievements like 17 patents filed, 18 technologies transferred, and 15 industry MoUs signed. Focus was placed on combining science with industry and farmer needs, fostering startups, and promoting “Local for Global” food initiatives. FSSAI Sets Up Panel to Revamp Organic Food Rules

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has launched a major review of organic food regulations, forming an expert panel to modernize certification, improve traceability, and enhance consumer trust. The initiative aims to align India’s standards with global benchmarks, address misleading claims, and ensure transparency across the supply chain. This follows APEDA’s revamp of its organic certification programme to support farmers and boost exports. With a target of US$2 billion in organic exports over five years, FSSAI’s efforts seek to build a unified, credible system and restore faith in the “organic” label across Indian products. Read More

Regulatory hurdles & stringent guidelines present challenges for namkeen

Namkeen products means savoury, salty, and spicy traditional Indian snack foods that are usually made from ingredients like gram flour (besan), lentils, rice, corn, potatoes and spices. They are a broad category of ready-to-eat snacks that are crunchy, flavoured, and consumed with tea/coffee, as a side dish, or even as a stand-alone snack. Namkeen – Indian savoury snack foods, as opposed to sweets (mithai).
